Light the fuse and dance
We are a mixed group of men and women who dance Traditional & Evolving Border Morris. Border Morris is lively and noisy, with bells, yells, and clashing sticks! It comes from English counties which border Wales and it’s hundreds of years old. We paint our faces, wear rag jackets and bells on our legs.
We are based in Whaley Bridge in the Peak District. Our name comes from local Gunpowder Mills. The gunpowder factory (which may date back to the 16th century) now lies under the waters of Fernilee Reservoir. Our rags are fire colours and our dances are explosive!!
We started in 2001 and our side is now over 30 strong, including dancers and musicians. We perform at events throughout Derbyshire and further afield. We would be happy to run a tutorial or demonstration, come out to dance with other sides, travel, see the world, whatever – as long as it’s fun!
Come and have some fun
