Poole’s Cavern is a ancient natural Limestone Cavern. Explore with our expert guides these vast, beautifully illuminated rock sculpted galleries and marvel at the variety of crystal Stalactites and Stalagmites renowned as the finest underground scenery in the UK. The cavern and country park woodlands are found on the outskirts of the historic Spa town of Buxton in the High Peak of Derbyshire.
The historic Spa Town of Buxton is famous for its therapeutic waters, Magnificent Georgian buildings, spectacular Peak District scenery and above all a warm welcome. The town has attracted curious visitors since the 16th century when Mary Queen of Scots was interned in the residence of the Earl of Shrewsbury, Now the Old Hall hotel in Buxton.
Early travellers followed a route guide known as the’ Wonders of the Peak’ published in 1636 taking in the first wonder of Poole’s Cavern along the way. Follow in the footsteps of centuries of explorers, travellers, vagabonds and royalty on a group visit with our expert guides to journey deep underground and deep in to the past.
Combine your cavern visit with a walk to Grin low viewpoint, lunch at the cavern cafe or time to explore the town of Buxton Spa.
Roam Grinlow Woods and reach Solomon’s Temple
We have a park and picnic area, stroll through beautiful woodland trails to the hilltops where the vantage point known locally as Solomon’s Temple stands.
We also boast one of Go Ape’s highest adventure courses, with zip wires, aerial walkways and much more.
The Visitors Centre and Café
Our cafe has a wide range of delicious produce including daily specials, light snacks and fair-trade coffee.
The cavern exhibition at the visitor centre covers our extensive history and our rock & gift centre has a wide range of fossils, gemstones and jewellery on offer.

The Cafe @ The Cavern serves food daily from 9.30 am to 4pm
