TAKE OFF! featuring The Flight and SUPER

Thursday 13th September, 2018 – 7.30pm
Part of the the Home-Grown programme line up

TAKE OFF! is an evening of two parts…

Part one: Super by Eve Hedderwick Turner

The Wild and the Innocent present a rehearsed reading of a new play by Eve Hedderwick Turner. Inspired by the writer’s personal experience of suffering a brain haemorrhage a few years ago, Super is a surreal, funny and moving play about growing up; it is about learning how to keep those who are important to us close whilst letting others go, and about a girl who gets knocked down only to get up again and discover she can fly.

Part two: The Flight by The Wild and the Innocent

Formed in Wirksworth, brand new theatre company The Wild and the Innocent present their debut play The Flight to a home crowd at this year’s festival.

‘On a Greek Island, a parent and child fear for their safety and dream of a better life on foreign shores.  They know they must flee, but how? The sea is obstructed but the sky is open..’

In a new version of the ancient fable of Icarus, The Wild and the Innocent use a live score, puppetry and a gaggle of twitchers to ask: What does it mean to exist on an island? What happens when borders go up? And how do you let your child spread their wings?

Eve is a writer and actress for theatre, TV and film. Acting work has included roles in BBC’s Blandings, Casualty and Doctors, and in Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass. On the writing side of things, Eve currently has projects in development with ITV Studios, Slam Films and has recently begun work on a new television pilot with Ecosse Films. She is developing her first play with From Ground Up theatre company which she hopes will hit a London stage in 2019.

The Wild and the Innocent were formed by local actor Elliott Rennie in 2017. The company are made up of professional theatre makers who work as actors, directors and musical directors in theatres across the country including the National Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Old Vic, The RSC and in the West End. Four out of the five met and now work extensively with the National Youth Theatre.

The night will be interspersed with local musicians performing songs on the theme of ‘Flight.’
